Boiler cleanout on Unit 1 of the power station during a routine maintenance shutdown.

Project Scope

We provided project management, technical expertise, specialist chemical process knowledge and advice during the four-month preparation prior to the shutdown of the power station plant, when temporary tanks and pumps are connected to the boiler.


The Bayswater Power Station is one of the largest coal fired power stations in Australia.

Boiler chemical cleans are required every five to eight years to remove excess oxide from the boiler internal surfaces to ensure the boiler operates in a clean and efficient manner.

One of the core components of the project was the coordination and management of the various maintenance, operating and sub-contractor staff to ensure everyone was able to meet the scheduled timeline.

In addition, plans were put in place to ensure costly delays did not occur during shutdown, in the event of plant failure or equipment malfunctions. This preparation included critical equipment testing, the coordination of spare parts and maintenance staff and chemical spill action plans to ensure incidents were handled immediately to prevent any safety issues occurring.

To ensure that the project was completed in an efficient manner, without compromising on quality or safety, we organised supervisors and chemical analysts to provide 24 hour continuous monitoring for five days during the implementation of the chemical clean process.


The boiler clean was performed within the allocated program schedule with no safety or environmental incidents.

The unit was returned to service at the power station eight hours ahead of the initial schedule.

Following the boiler cleanout, the unit operated smoothly within the plant with minimal elevated conductivity.
